yes, yes, yes, flowers have bloomed, school is out, the grass is green, and people want to spend all their free time at the lake but not until yesterday did I know it was summer.  I noticed it ever so slightly Tuesday around 10 am by noon it was certain summer is here.  I am sure you all have fond memories of summer and summer conjures up different ideas for each of us.  For me I know summer has arrived when you walk outside, not run, not jog, or dash and yet feel the first evidence of summer.  It begins with a tickle on the back of the neck, then a feeling of dampness, then a saline droplet of moisture occurs as it begins a path of least resistance downward.  Yes, we are talking about sweat.  Not sweat from exercise or running and playing.  Just plain old standing around in the summertime sweat.  Think of ice cream trucks or concerts in the park or swimming in the backyard pool, if you will, but I know when summer really is.

So much for an artistic post now i want you to know that this Tuesday will be our first Summer Exchange/worship.  Summer is a special time around the BCM our meetings are less casual than usual, hard to believe I know.  We usually have a time of devotion and possibly some music and then we hang out like your suppose to do during the summer, sweating is optional.  We will try and make some plans for outings during Tuesday's meeting.

Why, are thread-bare clothes so great?  The tee shirt that has holes, is torn in three places and can remember several US presidents is your favorite.  Why do our "best" jeans have holes and are faded to some color between a previously faded denim and dirty white.  The holey knees with only threads running across is my favorite look for jeans.  Hats need to be frayed, sweat stained and faded to be a fav.  Even our new clothes are often made to look used.  Does this some how help us to feel closer to our new clothes, a sort of false sense of relationship.  And why do these "fake worn" clothes then cost us even more money?  I know in my personal quest to bond with new clothes I always want them washed before I ever wear them, always!  I am glad that there are times when God relates to me like my favorite clothes.  Soft, comfortable, and a great fit.  I know that there will be days ahead when what I need from God is more of a kick to get moving or a tad more discipline to set me straight but I do enjoy those favorite clothes kind of days when God and I seem to enjoy just being together.

Well, it is the night before we leave for Mississippi. What will this adventure hold?  To rip off an old phrase and eric-ize.   "I don't know what this adventure holds but I know who holds the adventure"  Corny, I know.  I do look forward to this trip and the opportunities for ministry both to Mississippians and our own people.  It is great to have new folks on this trip as well as those who have seen a plethora of mission trips.  Nothing ever seems to be as rewarding as helping those in need.  God has truely given us an opportunity to serve through this trip.  A special word of thanks to those of you who helped with the hardest part of the trip; preparing!!!
